Joel Edgerton & Felicity Jones in Netflix's 'Train Dreams': A 1900s Logging Adventure (2025)

Joel Edgerton and Felicity Jones take on a perilous logging journey in the captivating Netflix trailer for 'Train Dreams'. The film, directed by Clint Bentley, follows the lives of Edgerton and Jones as they navigate the challenges of the early 20th century. With a stellar cast including Kerry Condon and William H. Macy, the movie is set to premiere in theaters on November 7th and stream on Netflix from November 21st. The story centers around Edgerton's character, Robert Grainier, a logger in the Pacific Northwest who struggles to balance his family life with the demands of the growing railroad system. In the trailer, Jones' character expresses concern about his sudden return, to which Edgerton replies, 'I just couldn't stop walking until I got here.' Bentley, known for his work on 'Jockey', wrote and directed the film, which is based on Denis Johnson's 2011 novella. The screenplay was co-written with Greg Kwedar, who previously collaborated on the Oscar-nominated 'Sing Sing'. The producers of 'Train Dreams' include Marissa McMahon, Teddy Schwarzman, Will Janowitz, Ashley Schlaifer, and Michael Heimler, while Edgerton, Kwedar, John Friedberg, and Scott Hinckley serve as executive producers. In his review for The Hollywood Reporter, chief film critic David Rooney praised Edgerton's performance, stating, 'The cumulative weight of all those moments that make up an ordinary life is the subject of this elegiac macro-miniaturist portrait of an itinerant worker in the early 1900s Pacific Northwest, played by Joel Edgerton in what might be the best work of his career.' But here's where it gets controversial... Will the film's portrayal of the logging industry spark debate? And this is the part most people miss... How does the film's exploration of the railroad system reflect the societal changes of the early 20th century? We want to hear your thoughts! Do you agree or disagree with Rooney's review?
